In-rooms procedures under local anaesthesia

Selected minor procedures are done as same-day, walk-in walk-out treatments in Dr Marais's consulting rooms at Johannesburg Surgical Hospital — convenient for patients in Randburg, Weltevredenpark, Northcliff and the surrounding suburbs. These are performed under local anaesthesia (or light sedation for endoscopy), so you recover at home the same day and avoid full hospital admission, theatre and ward fees.

  • Gastroscopy & colonoscopy

Diagnostic endoscopy under light sedation for straightforward cases.

  • Minor soft-tissue excisions

Sebaceous cysts, lipomas, skin lesions and small lumps under local anaesthesia.

  • Ingrown toenail surgery

Wedge resection or nail-bed ablation for recurrent ingrown toenails.

  • Small biopsies

Punch or excisional biopsies where a tissue diagnosis is needed.

Suitability is decided at consultation based on your medical history and the complexity of the procedure. More complex or higher-risk cases are booked into the main theatre at Johannesburg Surgical Hospital instead.
